Remote Control of Nexia PM and SP

Hi all, first time on this forum and apologies but I have a question to ask.

I currently have a Nexia PM and SP installed at home (for my audio/ video etc) and is controlled by a CUE remote control system. This control system is fine though rather cumbersome (especially as the kids are not allowed to touch it) and I am about to install a home wide IR control system over the cat5e using standad remote controls for the video/radio/music etc. The problem is that this won't control the volume as this is controlled by the Nexia equipment which obviously uses RS232 control.

Looking around I see that remote controls such as the Nevo SL and Philips Pronto do have the ability to communicate via RS232 or IP and I am wondering whether these can be used to communicate to the Nexia and thus alter volumes levels. I can then use these remote controls for the rest of the equipment.

Has anyone done this?? and if not these remote controls then what could I use - ideally something I could program from home.

Any help on this is much appreciated

Regards

Nick

Hi Nick

Any control system that can generate text strings can be used to control the Nexia units.

The beauty is that the Nexias can receive the commands via RS232 or IP (telnet)

The command to change levels for instance looks something like: SET 0 FDRLVL 121 1 -20

Translated this is "Set the fader level of block number 121 to -20dB". There is a bit more to it than that, but the commands can be found in the help file under the 3rd Party Control section.

Biamp has also now introduced block naming, so you don't have to use the Instance ID anymore. The above command could be: SET 0 FDRLVL MAINVOL 1 -20

If you need help or pointers don't hesitate to ask...

Regards
