Ring Indication to Control System over Ethernet

Working on a job where ethernet control from Crestron is the only option for the Biamp, so obvisously I can't get command strings out of the unit. But I need to know when the phone is ringing. I did a work around where I would toggle a Mute Block based on the Ring Indicator, and then poll that mute block every 2 or 3 seconds. This works for determining whether the phone is ringing, but it causes, or appears to cause another problem. With this polling turned on, after about 30 seconds there will be a lock up on the touch panel where no buttons respond,
additionally Crestron Test Manager freezes. Then at some random point in the future everything starts responding again, and as near as I can determine, every button pressed in the interval is
activated/responds/etc. This delay has been as short as 30 seconds, but has also rolled into a "I can't wait anymore, I'm rebooting" time.

This only happens when the polling is enabled. Any suggestions for either getting the Ring Indiator back without polling, or polling without the lockup?

Some Tech Notes:
Crestron CP2E, Firmware 4.001.0006
Biamp Nexia, Firmware 1.50
Using the Biamp v6.1 modules.

jjackson,

As far as I know from tech support is that the capabilty is not there yet for pushing info over IP to a 3rd party controler, we were wondering this a few months back.

BUT

You could try a Logic Box from Nexia and run it into the I/O of Crestron. Then through Biamp build you logic for HIGH commands to send back to Crestron. You could try running RI into the output 1 of the logic box then have RI run into a NOT then to output 2 of the logic box. Then tie them to I/O 1 and 2 on the Crestron. This should act like how a command string is sent if you were going RS232 and pushing strings back to Crestron.

I know its extra hardware and cable but I am don't think you can do it anyother way unless you try RS485 conversion in Crestron and get a converter (RS485 to RS232) for the Biamp end to do serial control.

Let me know if this helps or if some one else has a different idea I'd love to hear.

Sadly the Logic Box is not an option. The devices are physically sepearated, and there is no pathway for cabling between the two. I can't even steal the Ethernet and repurpose it to a Serial line.

Anybody have any suggestions? I can do everything except tell them when the phone is ringing. Do I just tell the customer that's not possible?

Jake,

Your workaround is a good idea and should work without any issues. I'm wondering if you're actually running into some Crestron module issues with v6.1

We've heard that the module could in some odd instances lock up as one of the buffer fills up whenever doing extensive polling. Get in touch with us at support@biamp.com to get the newer version v6.2 which should solve this issue.

Let us know if you have further questions.

Tony,

Is the 6.1 or 6.2 modules available either on the Biamp web site or the Crestron Site? I have not found anything new under the Crestron partner modules and there does not seem to be anything that jumps out at me on the Biamp site.

So I am wondering if this module is available to the "public" or do we have to go to Biamp directly for this one??

Thanks

Kris

Biamp does have a Crestron module version 6.2 available. This module was developed by an independent Crestron programmer and is not supported by Crestron or Biamp. Anyone using this module will be on their own as far as support of it is concerned. If you're interested in getting it, please contact us directly and we'll get you a copy: support@biamp.com or call us at 800-826-1457/503-641-7287

I often have the same issue. Currently I tell my designer that I can't do TC via telnet (not entirely true but it get's me what I want.) It would be great to be able to push strings via telnet. Does anyone know if a logic input on any block pushes a string on telnet? Maybe that would be a suitable work around till Biamp figures out that sending string bias telnet is a really important need to have.

BTW I've found the Crestron module way too bloated and have found it much eaier to just write my own for one device that is always unit one.

I sent you a screenshot what i've done on a system to get the ring state of the TC.

I've put a 1 on the OSC and it's polling at every 5sec. but you can put the osc when the phone is on hook to prevent traffic.
