This is a general enquiry to find out what software and hardware people recommend for tuning audio systems.

I have watched several other audio engineers use various programs to equalize, time align and phase correct audio systems,

and was interested in what Biamp users world wide would recommend.

I have tuned audio systems by ear for years, but now it is apparently about hitting the sweet spot when time aligning/phase compensating

multiway and delay systems.

If you have any prefered software and hardware and would like to discuss why you chose it,then please email me or post a reply here.

I know this is not strictly a Biamp related question, but surely getting the best out of your Biamp system is what we all want.

Hope to hear from you.

i built my own real time analyzer using a nexia cs with the display on da vinci, the trick is to send a dummy ( use input 1 connected directly to output 1) to compile

Hi David,

Could you post the files for this so that I can see what you are doing?

Thanks Garth.

Hello!

Being a distributor we dont get that much often out to actual installations. If we do, than nobody is allowed to leave the building without the Neutrik Minirator PRO and Minilyzer Set to have some sort of reference. Especially the Minirator Pro with the ability of storing your own tracks on it is priceless.

If it gets any more serious I still have my trusted Small Behringer Mixer, a measurement mic (dont know the make) and SMAART.

Ah, yeah I still have my two ears and the brain in between athough this combo got a little rusty over time ever since I did this for a living...

Bye

To HST,

I know about SMAART and it seemed a bit clumsy or was it the sound guy I saw using it ? They had a trial version available ages ago but did not let you do phase checking in trial mode.

Just trying to see what the professional sound technicians use and why, before I outlay any money and commit to one system.

I have looked at the website for the Australian distributer of Neutrik and still don't know if they actually sell the test equipment as well.

Maybe other forum users can voice their opinion on this hardware/software.

Thanks Garth

Hi Garth!

Smaart is a very powerful measurement system is beyond most socalled sound guys. This may sound a bit beefy but this is simply the truth. I hardly believe the average sound guy has the needed background info to use really USE Smaart. So, yes there is a learning curve but I think it is worth it.

Sorry for being misleading on the Minilyzer thing. It used to be Neutrik but it is now a fully separate companie named NTI Instruments.

To HST,

Most of the sound guys I know don't want to know about processors unless they have a potentiometer or slider to play with and their favourite cd and a mike.

The fall in the Aussie Dollar has just made Smaart 50% more expensive, so I will keep on looking.

Thanks Garth.

Hi

Hmm, well being an engineer and a sound guy I prefer:

the best tool for the best price and not to forget a test stimulus which is worth to be measured.

So, sorry, NO too a rusty SM58 being shouted at for tuning systems...

Although I have to confess how good some results are by going that route. However, this works only with the magic people and I assume they do this thingie just for entertaining themselves during sound check. They simply know what to do and make even a miced flightcase lid sound like a DW snare....
