Controlling Input mutes with latching key switch via logic control box

Hello all-

I am looking to control an Audia flex via lighted pushbutton latching switches. There are 8 switches total and I would like to control individual mic input mutes with these buttons I have looked through the documentation on the website and didn't really see much as far as an example on how to do this. I know I need a logic box. The switches that I had planned on using are E.A.O. series 51 switches with LED illumination. My question is will the logic box be able to power these LED's as a status indicator for when the mutes are activated? Also, how do I assign these particular GPIO ports to a specific instance ID inside of the DSP configuration file.

Thanks for the help!

I have done several installations like this. I've been advised that the RCB bus is pretty beefy with respect to current...if you only have the one logic box on the RCB bus then you have about 1 amp of current available. We use the 24v rail from the RCB; the LEDs typically draw about 20mA each, so for 8 your looking at well under a 200mA load.

Just make sure you have properly matched load resistors (dust off the old ohm's law calculator) in the circuit.

If they're momentary switches, you'll probably want to route each switch through a Flip-Flop Gate, and tie it to a 2-input Remote Preset (one for the on position through a NOT gate, and one for the off - direct). Control your mute states with the presets. Lamp feedback can be direct or via the on-off remote presets (I prefer using a logic state for the LED output to get more positive feedback from the Remote Preset, but either way will work).

If it is a latching switch you do the above, but eliminate the Flip-Flop.

With respect to your last question, that's where the Remote Presets come in. Just make a Mute On and Mute Off preset for each switch.

see the attached .dap file for example.

CTC,

leetown1 gave a great example. (thanks for sharing!)

I too have done this before. I don't use presets. Instead, I like to use a mute blocks and pure logic to control the rest. Attached is a copied-n-pasted portion of a system I recently completed that incorporated what you've described. This system had two panels with momentary buttons (latching wouldn't work with two panels). So, as leetown1 said, I am using flip-flops to toggle the mute state. Also, I had system on/off buttons and LED's on one of the panels. To add even more confusion, I was asked to create a DaVinci control panel which is providing the same controls, as well as other things like level controls and meters and such. My client loaded the files into a tablet pc/laptop that was dedicated to the system rack. It all turned out rather well.

Anyway, give my alternate version a look-see. I included a text block in the dap file that explained the various extras that were not part of your original question. Also, remember to switch the negative side of the LED's through the logic box...not the positive.

Good luck!

Thanks to you both. I was not expecting the dap files too! This is awesome. I'll give it a shot. B-)

I've noticed a few discussions over the past few months regarding mic muting. Attached is a very simple way using Shure or Audio-Technica 5-wire boundary mics. No ANDs, NOTs, Flip-flops needed. 10 microphones per Logic Box.

For mic #1, for example, the mic's LED wire goes to Output 1 of the Logic Box and the mic's switch wire goes to Input 1 of the Logic Box, and so on. If you have camera control with Crestron or AMX, the 10 Logic Box output terminals go directly to the I/O ports of the control system.
