How to link two Select8 units?

Hello!

Room Combining with a Select8 in each of he two rooms. User wants two have the top most LED for "Rooms combined" and the second row for "rooms separeted" on BOTH plates.

This is no problem for a single Select8 but the wall_plate2 does not follow when the user changes the setup onplate1 and stays on the row, which was selected on its own knob.

Any way out of this?

bye

I imagine that you are either recalling presets or controlling the room combiner via flip/flops directly from the VS8, right? If so, the easiest way to make them track each other is wiring the second VS8 to the same remote preset block or flip/flop controlling the room combining. Both thing, preset recall and flip/flops work on the rise of the logic signal, so if you wire two (or more) VS8 to the same place, both can recall and track each other

Hello!

Well we tried the VS-8 -> FlipFlop -> RoomCombiner thingie and YES it works as reported. Thx for this.

However there are some "additional features" which I (not yet) call a Bug Report or Feature Request. It goes like this:

1. When doing the above the VS-8 even track changes made by nexia.exe and/or daVinci, which is great!

However using the above method the LEDs on the S-8 are illuminated whenever the rooms are DIVIDED (i.e. contact HIGH = wall closed) but I assum almost every enduser would like to see a light for "Rooms Combined" instead of the default "Rooms divided"

So I put in a NOT gate between the FlipFlop and the RoomCombiner in order to get the LEDs right.

Guess what? The VS8 still track each other (they dont know of the NOT, which is BEHIND the FlipFlop) BUT they do NOT track nexia.exe any longer!!

WHY??

2. Before actually hooking up two VS-8s to the very same flip flop I tried using an OR, which looked right. However this OR prevents the two to track, one really has to do this ugly fanout!

=> Looks like Logic Gates prevent some nice magic.

Thought, this is worth noting..

Harald,

I'm confused by how you are using Nexia or daVinci software to control the room combiner in this case? The only way to control a room combiner wall state in daVinci would be through Logic State buttons or through presets. Why don't you send the file to support@biamp.com and we can get a better idea of what you're doing.

Thanks.

Hello!

You are 100% right. I was talking about nexia.exe only and NOT daVinci. Matter of fact, daVinci was not a part of our test setup at all! http://forum.biamp.com/images/emoticons/shocked.gif

In nexia.exe I click directly into the room combiner control block onto the virtual "wall dividers"

The setup is really as simple as I wrote: VS-8 -> Flip-Flop -> RoomCombiner

When the setup is however

VS-8 -> Flip-Flop -> NOT-Gate->RoomCombiner

combining walls in nexia.exe does not propagate back to the LEDs on the VS-8. As soon as you remove the NOT all is back in sync!

Ok, I see what you're saying. You're right, with the NOT gates in series, the logic does not propagate. I wonder how often you would want to control the system with both a Select8 as well as the Nexia software? Seems like you'd use one or the other or more likely use the Select8 and daVinci.

Hi Kiley!

I did not complain, I just reported that some Logic Gates seem to be "more equal" than others! :-) And yes, you are right this is not a typical real world application.

Examples: The room combiner is able to talk back through the FlipFlop to the VS-8 but for example two VS-8 combined via an OR dont know anything from each other.Or the NOT example of above.

So if you really want to read a rant, that I would like to see some more docs about the inner workings of all these stuff and what kind of system is behind this magic. But dont blame me, you asked for it somehow ;-)
